Stony Brook, N.Y.—UMBC baseball raced out to an early lead, but the home standing Seawolves fought back to take down UMBC 11-6 on Sunday. Freshman Joey Goodwin (Rockville, Md./Good Counsel) led the Retrievers with four hits. Raven Beeman (Somerset, Pa.) drove in three runs on three hits for UMBC.
The Retrievers fall to 13-20, 6-6 AE while Stony Brook improves to 21-17, 7-8 AE.
The bats came alive in the third, with UMBC putting up five runs in the inning. Floyd reached on a fielder's choice and move up on a Goodwin single and a Dalton Stewart (Sharpsburg, Md./Boonsboro) single to load the bases. Beeman then ripped a double to right center, clearing the bases to put UMBC up 4-0. Beeman would later score, along with Mitchell Carroll (Oakton, Va.) on an AJ Wright (Cherry Hill, N.J.) double to give UMBC a 6-0 lead.
However, the Seawolves responded with four runs in the third and four in the fourth to take the lead. Stony Brook would add two in the seventh and one in the eighth to defeat UMBC 11-6 on Sunday.
Goodwin led the way with four hits, with Beeman (3), Stewart, and Andres Machado (Coral Gables, Fla.) each with multiple hits.
UMBC returns to Baltimore for a pair of midweek games against Navy (Tuesday, April 24) and Towson (Wednesday, April 25) to kick off a five game home stand.
