Retriever Baseball Continues Road Swing at George Mason on Wednesday

Baltimore, Md.—UMBC baseball continues their road swing at George Mason on Wednesday afternoon. The Retrievers are coming off a three-game sweep at Florida Gulf Coast this past weekend. Currently the Retrievers are 5-13, 2-1 AE on the year.

Scouting the Retrievers:

-The Retrievers come into the matchup at 5-13, coming off a sweep at the hands of Florida Gulf Coast this past weekend. UMBC held a lead in the finale, but the Eagles scored the last six runs of the game to sweep the Retrievers.

-Raven Beeman (Somerset, Pa.) and Zack Bright (Fairfax Station, Va.) lead the Retrievers at the dish batting .231 and .230 respectively. Bright is tied for the team lead with AJ Wright (Cherry Hill, N.J.) with nine RBI. Wright leads the team with 15 hits in 69 at bats.

-Stephen Schoch (Laurel, Md./Appalachian State) leads the Retrievers on the mound with a 1.88 ERA in 24.0 innings of work. He has a team best 36 strikeouts, surrendering ten walks and just five earned runs.

Scouting the Patriots:

-The Patriots will play at N.C. State on Tuesday before returning to Fairfax to play UMBC and are currently 10-11 on the year, winners of their last four. George Mason swept St. Bonaventure this past weekend, giving up just six runs in three games.

-Logan Driscoll leads the Patriots at the plate with a .458 average with a team best 38 hits, 21 runs scored and 20 RBI. He is slugging .602 with five stolen bases. Trevor Kelly provides the power with five doubles and a team high two triples and three home runs. 

-Zach Mort leads the pitching staff with a 1.96 ERA in six starts, sporting a 3-1 record. He has struck out 55 batters, issuing just five walks in 41.1 innings of work.

All-Time Series:

-UMBC and George Mason will be meeting for the 60th time in the all-time series that dates back to 1972. The Patriots lead the series 43-16, however UMBC has won the last three meetings including a 4-2 victory exactly a year ago 

On Deck:

-UMBC will return to Alumni Field for a weekend America East set with Binghamton on Friday and Saturday, March 30-31. Friday will be a double header starting at noon with Saturday as a single game also at noon.
