UMBC Baseball Drops Series Finale to Florida Gulf Coast, 6-3 on Sunday

Fort Myers, Fla.—UMBC baseball got out to a 3-0 lead, but six unanswered runs by the Eagles gave them the series sweep in a 6-3 victory on Sunday. Zack Bright (Fairfax Station, Va.) drove in two of the runs in the first inning on a triple.

UMBC falls to 5-13 while Florida Gulf Coast moves to 18-5 on the year.

Stephen Schoch (Laurel, Md./Appalachian State) picked up his second loss of the year in relief with Peyton Gray earned the win for the Eagles.

Matt Campbell (Chesapeake, Va.) led off the game with a walk and advanced to third after AJ Wright (Cherry Hill, N.J.) reached on an error. Just two pitches later, Bright unloaded on a triple to right that scored both Campbell and Wright. Bright would score just two pitches later on a Dmitri Floyd (Dover, Del.) single to left to make it 3-0 early.

From there the Retriever bats would be silenced as the Eagles scored runs in the fourth and sixth inning before taking the lead on a two-run home run in the seventh. They added a pair in the eighth to complete the comeback in a 6-3 win.

Seven different Retrievers recorded hits with Bright and Floyd driving in runs. Starter Mitchell Wilson (Hagerstown, Md./St. James) went 4.1 innings with six strikeouts, giving up just one run.

UMBC returns to action on Wednesday, March 28 at George Mason. First pitch is set for 2:30 p.m.
