The Retrievers are coming off a 1-2 weekend in Cary, N.C. to open the season at the Penn State Tournament. UMBC knocked off Penn State on day one before falling to No. 23 St. John's and Monmouth.

Scouting the Retrievers:
-UMBC is coming off a 1-2 weekend to open the 2018 season in Cary, N.C. at the Penn State Tournament. The Retrievers knocked off the host Nittany Lions on Friday, 2-1, before falling to No. 23 St. John's (12-0) and Monmouth (17-5).
-Senior Mitchell Carroll (Oakton, Va./Oakton) is leading the team at the plate, batting .375 with three hits in eight at bats. A quartet of Retrievers have hit home runs so far this year in AJ Wright (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West), Dalton Stewart (Sharpsburg, Md./Boonsboro), Zack Bright (Fairfax Station, Va./WT Woodson) and Christian Torres (Miami, Fla./Miami Senior).
-On the hill, Jacob Christian (Nokesville, Va./Patriot) has the lone Retriever win after coming on in relief against Penn State. Stephen Schoch (Laurel, Md./Appalachian State) picked up a three inning save, striking out three against the Nittany Lions.
Scouting the Midshipmen:
-Navy enters the contest at 4-2 in the early part of the season, picking up wins against Air Force, Georgetown and Wake Forest. Most recently, the Mids took two of three from Air Force down in North Carolina.
-The Midshipmen are led by a trio at the plate in Jacob Williamson, Evan Lowery, and Zach Biggers. Williamson is hitting .385 through six games, leading the team with 10 RBI. He has scored six times with two doubles and one home run. Lowery and Biggers are each hitting over .300 at .345 and .333 respectively.
-Navy will start Tommy Goodridge on Tuesday. Goodridge is 1-0 in two appearances this year, throwing 2.2 innings. Noah Song leads the rotation with a 1.64 ERA and a 1-1 record.
-UMBC and Navy will meet for the 46th time in the all-time series with UMBC holding a 26-19 lead in the series. The Retrievers have won the five meetings dating back to 2015, sweeping the season series the last three years.
-Last year the teams only played once, with UMBC coming out on top 10-1 in Annapolis. UMBC did not surrender a run till the final inning, giving up just five hits.
-UMBC will continue their season opening road swing at Missouri this weekend. The Tigers and Retrievers will play a weekend series in Columbia from Friday, March 2-Sunday, March 4.
