Baltimore, Md.- UMBC baseball will return to the diamond after a short break due to weather in the Baltimore area last week. The Retrievers last played against Towson on May 10, falling 4-2 to move to 18-21 on the year.

Scouting the Retrievers (18-21):
-UMBC comes into the mid-week contest at 18-21 on the year, sitting in second place in America East. In their most recent conference series, they split a pair at Maine as they fell 10-7 in game one before taking the finale 9-6. More recently, UMBC has dropped two games in a row, falling 4-2 to Towson and 6-2 to Maryland.
-A trio of Retrievers lead the team on offense, with Andrew Casali (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) batting .327 on the year with a team best 52 hits and 29 runs scored. Hunter Dolshun (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) provides the power batting .314 with a team leading seven home runs and 29 RBI. Jamie Switalski (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) has recorded 27 runs and 44 hits and a team high of 17 doubles.
-On the bump, Matt Chanin (Olney, Md./Sherwood) leads the rotation with a 5.03 ERA, going 3-4 in ten starts. He has two complete games with 34 strikeouts. Jacob Christian (Nokesville, Va./Patriot) leads the Black and Gold with 47 strikeouts in 2017.
Scouting the Hoyas (27-24):
-Georgetown is coming off a sweep in a doubleheader against Butler. The Hoyas scored only one run throughout the two games as Butler took the games, 5-0 and 7-1. With the two losses, the Hoyas fall to 27-24 for the season.
-Jake Kuzbel and Michael DeRenzi lead the offense with .347 and .346 batting averages. DeRenzi has blasted five home runs and holds a team best of 43 runs for the Hoyas.
-On the mound, Jimmy Swad leads the rotation with a 2.67 ERA, going 3-2 throughout his 24 appearances for the season. Simon Matthews holds the team high in strikeouts with 80 in his 13 starts for the Hoyas. Jack Cushing also holds 13 starts for Georgetown and has earned 78 strikeouts.
-Georgetown and UMBC will be meeting for the 52nd time all-time with the Retrievers holding a 33-18 advantage.
-The Retrievers will head into their last America East series of the regular season against Stony Brook on Friday and Saturday, May 19-20. Friday will be a double header with Saturday being a single game, both starting at noon.
