Retriever Baseball Travels to Maine for Final Road Conference Series

Baltimore, Md.-- UMBC baseball will continue their ten game road trip this weekend when they travel to Maine to take on the Black Bears in what will be their final road conference games this season.

What: UMBC Retrievers (17-18, 9-6 America East) at Maine Black Bears (16-23, 3-9 AE)

Where: Mahaney Diamond – Orono, Maine

When: Saturday (DH) and Sunday, May 6th and 7th, Saturday at 1 p.m., and Sunday at 1 p.m.

Scouting the Retrievers (17-18):

-The Retrievers currently sit in second place in the America East behind Binghamton.  They took their most recent conference series at Albany, taking the first two games by scores of 15-8 and 5-2, and dropping the final game 10-2.  The Retrievers most recently beat Navy on the road 10-1, in which the Retrievers tallied 15 hits.

-Junior Collin Stack (Jamestown, N.Y./Monroe CC) leads the team at the plate with a .357 average, and 40 hits.  Senior Hunter Dolshun (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) leads the team with five homeruns and 25 RBI, and has a team high .549 slugging percentage.

-Junior Matt Chanin (Olney, Md./Sherwood) leads the team on the mound with a 4.40 ERA and has two complete games, while sophomore Andy Rozylowicz (Laurel, Md./DeMatha) has a 3.94 ERA off 10 appearances out of the bullpen.

Scouting the Black Bears (16-23):

-The Black Bears currently sit in last place in the conference and are coming off a sweep at the hands of Stony Brook last weekend.  The team most recently was victorious at home against Colby College by a score of 10-2.

-At the plate, Christopher Bec leads the team with a .363 average, 53 hits, and 15 doubles.  Tyler Schwanz leads the team with four homeruns and 23 RBI.

-On the mound, Justin Courtney is the team's leading starter, with a 3.90 ERA and 47 strikeouts owning a 4-4 record.  In relief, Jeff Gelinas owns a 0.64 ERA and has four saves on the season.

All-Time Series:

-UMBC trails in the series 43-11, playing 54 times since 2002.

-The last meeting between the teams was last season in the America East Tournament, where Maine won 11-1, ending the Retrievers' season. The Retrievers and Black Bears had a series cancelled due to weather back in March.

On Deck

-The Retrievers will remain on the road for their next two games, traveling to College Park to take on Maryland on Tuesday, and then to Towson on Wednesday.  The road trip will end on Thursday when they host Coppin State.
