UMBC Baseball Concludes Home Stand Against Delaware on Wednesday

Baltimore, Md.—UMBC baseball will look to win their win streak to five games as their conclude their eight game home stand against Delaware on Wednesday night. The Retrievers have won five of their last six, including a sweep of Mount St. Mary's on Sunday where they outscored the Mountaineers 33-8.

Scouting the Retrievers (7-11):

-The Retrievers enter the contest with Delaware at 7-11, winners of their last four, all at home. Furthermore the Black and Gold have won five of the last six after sweeping Mount St. Mary's this past Sunday. UMBC knocked off the Mount 19-7 and 14-1 in the two games.

-Hunter Dolshun (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) leads the Retrievers at the plate with a .367 average with four doubles and two home runs. Collin Stack (Jamestown, N.Y./Monroe CC) leads the team with 22 hits, scoring 13 runs with 15 RBI. Freshman Dalton Stewart (Sharpsburg, Md./Boonsboro) hit his first two collegiate home runs in back-to-back at bats on Sunday, giving him ten RBI on the year.

-Matt Chanin (Olney, Md./Sherwood) leads the rotation with a 4.50 ERA, going 1-3 on the year in 24.0 innings pitched. Jacob Christian (Nokesville, Va./Patriot) has a team best 29 strikeouts in six appearances.

Scouting the Blue Hens (15-10):

-The Blue Hens will head to Baltimore after playing La Salle on Tuesday in Philadelphia. Delaware most recently took two of three from CAA foe William & Mary this weekend. The Blue Hens won the final two games, winning the third game in come-from-behind fashion after being down 4-0.

-Doug Trimble and Kevin Mohollen lead the offense, batting .398 and .396 respectively. Trimble leads the team with 41 hits and 11 doubles with 26 RBI. Mohollen has a team best 26 runs scored on 40 hits and four triples. Jordan Glover leads the squad with six home runs and seven stolen bases.

-On the mound, James Meeker leads the staff with a 2.84 ERA with a 3-1 record in seven appearances. Brandon Walter is tops on the team with 42.1 innings pitched, striking out 49 batters this year.

Conference Recognition:

-Senior Hunter Dolshun was named America East Player of the Week on Tuesday, after he led the conference with a .636 batting average in three wins last week.

-He went 7-11 from the plate, with a .636 on base percentage and slugging 1.000. He scored six times with three RBI and a home run. The senior catcher leads the Retrievers with a .367 batting averaging this year with 18 hits and 11 RBI.

Program Record:

-Junior Collin Stack (Jamestown, N.Y./Monroe CC) drove in a UMBC Division I program record eight RBI in their 19-7 win against Mount St. Mary's. Four of his eight RBI helped spark a comeback in the middle innings, after UMBC was down 7-2.

All-Time Series:

-The Blue Hens and Retrievers have met 53 time before, including once already in the 2017 season, with Delaware holding a 40-13 lead.

-Delaware has won the last six meetings, including a 17-6 victory back on March 7 in Newark.

On Deck:

-UMBC will head to New York for a three game America East series with Binghamton on Saturday and Sunday, April 8-9. The Retrievers and Bearcats will play two on Saturday starting at noon, with the finale also at noon on Sunday.
