Christian Becomes Second Ever Retriever to Join Cape Cod League; Wright Hits for Cycle

Brewster, Mass. -- The Brewster Whitecaps of the prestigious Cape Cod League have activated UMBC pitcher Jacob Christian, the club announced Tuesday night.

Christian, a 2016 Cal Ripken League All-Star for the Vienna River Dogs, has racked up 38 strikeouts in 49.2 innings pitched (6.89K/9). The rising sophomore becomes the second-ever Retriever to be "called-up" to the Cape Cod League, joining former major-leaguer Zach Clark ('07) on the list.

In other summer league action, Christian's classmate AJ Wright hit for the cycle for the South Jersey Giants on Tuesday. Wright batted lead-off and accomplished the feat in just four at-bats, completing the cycle in style with a home run in his fourth at-bat in the fifth inning of a 10-4 victory over Trenton.

"Congratulations to Jacob, our second-ever representative in the Cape Cod League, and [what an] awesome job by AJ to hit for cycle. Tuesday was a great day for Retriever baseball." said head coach Bob Mumma.
