Stony Brook, N.Y.—UMBC baseball fell 4-1 and 3-2 on Saturday to the Seawolves, dropping their overall record to 19-20, 7-9 AE on the year. Junior Hunter Dolshun (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) posted three hits and two RBIs over the two games to lead the Retrievers.
The Retrievers jumped on the scoreboard early, getting a run in the top of the first inning. Dolshun drove in Kevin Lachance (Clifton, Va./Centreville) for the early 1-0 lead.
That would be the lone run the Retrievers scored in the contest, as Stony Brook score in their half of the first to tie it, and would take the lead in the fourth before adding a pair of runs in the sixth to take a 4-1 win in the opener.
Dolshun went 2-4 with an RBI, as Lachance and Jamie Switalski (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) were the only other Retrievers to record hits.
Game two of the double dip started with the Seawolves scoring on an error by Dolshun on a strike out to give Stony Brook a 1-0 lead.
UMBC answered back, taking a lead of their own after Switalski singled home Lachance to tie it in the fifth. Dolshun struck again with a single to left plating Lachance to make it 2-1 in the top of the seventh.
Stony Brook would respond getting a pair of runs in their half of the seventh to take the walk-off win, 3-2.
Switalski had two hits, as Dolshun, Lachance, and Andrew Casali (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) had the others.
Game three of the series concludes tomorrow, Sunday May 1 at noon on Long Island.
