Baltimore, Md.—Junior Hunter Dolshun drilled his third home run of the weekend, but the Retrievers could not fight off Binghamton in a 7-5 loss on Sunday. Dolshun led the way with three RBI as UMBC falls to 18-18, 7-7 AE on the year.
The Bearcats jumped on starter Jacob Christian (Nokesville, Va./Patriot) early, scoring a trio of runs over the second and third innings.
UMBC responded quickly as Hunter Dolshun (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) blasted his third home run of the weekend scoring Anthony Gatto (Hauppauge, N.Y./Smithtown West) in the process. Binghamton added another the next inning to push the lead back to two runs.
Dolshun collected his second RBI of the day, scoring Andrew Casali (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan), followed by a Switalski fly out to tie the game at 4-4 after five.
However it was the Bearcats who took the lead for good, plating a pair in the seventh and eighth to lead 6-4, a lead they never lost. UMBC kept it close, getting a home run from Nick Naumann (Essex, Md./John Carroll/Chestnut Hill) to cut the deficit to one.
The Bearcats added a run in the ninth, and closed the door on UMBC in the bottom of the inning to take the series finale 7-5 on Sunday.
Dolshun led the way with three RBI, as Gatto collected three hits for the Retrievers.
UMBC returns to action on Wednesday, April 27 with a 6 p.m. start against Coppin State at Alumni Field.
