Towson, Md.—UMBC baseball picked up their second straight win with a 4-3 win at Towson on Wednesday. The Retrievers got a pair of RBI from Nick Naumann (Essex, Md./John Carroll/Chestnut Hill) in the win to move to 15-14 on the year.
The Retrievers opened things up in a hurry, putting three runs up in the top of the first. After Kevin Lachance (Clifton, Va./Centreville) led off with a single, Hunter Dolshun (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) followed up with a single of his own to move Lachance over. Freshman AJ Wright (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) beat out the throw to first on an infield hit to score Lachance. Andrew Casali (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) singled the very next at bat to plate Dolshun. Nick Naumann ended the scoring run with a double to the wall in left, scoring Wright.
Naumann added another run in the third, hitting a sacrifice fly to right scoring Jamie Switalski (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) to make it 4-0 after three.
The Tigers would answer in their half of the fifth, getting three runs back and a three run home run from Brady Policelli to cut the deficit to 4-3.
However the Retriever pitching staff would shut the door the rest of the way, capped by Casali who threw a scoreless ninth to earn his first collegiate save. Connor Hax (Bowie, Md./Bishop McNamara picked up his second win of the year, going three innings of relief, giving up just one hit with two strikeouts.
At the plate, Casali went 2-4 with an RBI, while Naumann plated two on a double.
The Retrievers will return to the diamond in an America East series at Maine this Saturday and Sunday, April 16-17. The Black Bears and Retrievers will play two on Saturday, starting at 1 p.m. before closing the series on Sunday with a single game also at 1 p.m.
