Albany, N.Y.—UMBC baseball dropped their third in a row, 10-4 to the Great Danes on Saturday. UMBC was led by sophomore Jamie Switalski (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) had another big day, going 3-4 from the dish with a pair of RBI in the loss. UMBC falls to 13-13, 4-2 AE on the year with the loss.
The Retrievers jumped out in front in the first inning on an RBI sac fly from Hunter Dolshun (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) scoring Anthony Gatto (Hauppauge, N.Y./Smithtown West) who reached earlier on an error.
However the Danes would rattle off seven runs over the next two innings to take the lead for good. The would tack on another pair of runs in the sixth and seventh to lead 9-1 heading to the eighth.
UMBC responded with a three spot in the eighth, led by a two-RBI double by Switalski to deep right center field. Switalski would also score in the stanza after Andrew Casali (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) hit a sac fly to center.
Albany would weather the storm, scoring in their half of the eighth, holding on for a 10-4 victory.
The two sides will play a double-header tomorrow, April 10 starting at 1 p.m. from Varsity Field.
