UMBC Baseball Returns Home to Face George Washington on Tuesday

Baltimore, Md.—UMBC baseball returns to the diamond on Tuesday with a mid-week matchup with the George Washington Colonials at Alumni Field. The Retrievers are coming off a 2-1 weekend with Mount St. Mary's, having won the double-header in Baltimore on Saturday, before falling in the finale on Sunday in Emmitsburg. UMBC sits at 13-11, 4-1 AE on the year, including a 9-1 record at home.

-George Washington RHP Randy Dalrymple (0-0, 11.17 ERA) vs. UMBC RHP Jamie Switalski (0-0, 5.40 ERA)

Scouting the Retrievers (13-11, 4-1 AE):

-UMBC comes into the mid-week meeting with George Washington at 13-11, 4-1 AE on the year, winners of three of their last four. The Retrievers saw their eight game win streak come to an end with a 5-3 loss to Mount St. Mary's on Sunday. UMBC fell behind after a four run fourth for the Mountaineers and never recovered.

-Kevin Lachance (Clifton, Va./Centreville) leads the team offensively, hitting .438 through 24 games. He leads the team in hits (42), and home runs (4) as well as swiping 17 bases in 19 tries and is 14th in the nation in batting average. Classmate Anthony Gatto (Hauppauge, N.Y./Smithtown West) is second on the team with a .351 average, while sophomore Jamie Switalski (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) is third hitting .325 with a team best 25 RBI.

-On the mound, Conrad Wozniak (Cypress, Texas/Cypress Woods/Frank Phillip) leads the rotation with a 3.67 ERA in six starts this season. Wozniak has a 3-2 record in 34.1 innings pitched with a team best 28 strikeouts. Seniors Jonny Dierks (Easton, Md./Independence/Fort Scott CC) and Denis Mikush (Burke, Va./Robinson) lead the bullpen with ten and nine appearances each. Dierks is 3-0 with two saves, while Mikush is the program leader in career saves (10), with two to his credit this year.

Scouting the Colonials (10-18, 2-1 A10):

-George Washington comes into the Tuesday meeting with the Retrievers at 10-18, 2-1 A10 on the year, having most recently taking two of three from La Salle in the A10 opener. The Colonials took the first two contests by scores of 4-3 and 2-1 before falling 3-0 in the finale.

-A trio of Colonials is batting over .300 on the year, led by Mark Osis, hitting .389. Osis leads the team with 37 hits, adding 17 runs scored and 15 RBI. Andrew Selby and Kevin Mahala are hitting .333 and .310 respectively with Mahala leading George Washington with 28 RBI.

-The Colonials pitching staff has a collective ERA of 4.82, with seven pitchers making at least one start this year. Tuesday's starter Randy Dalrymple will be making his first start of the year, having thrown just 9.2 innings with 12 earned runs and an 11.17 ERA.
