Retrievers Have Eight Game Win Streak Snapped in 5-3 Loss to Mount St. Mary’s on Sunday

Emmitsburg, Md.— UMBC baseball saw their eight game win streak come to an end with a 5-3 loss to Mount St. Mary's on Sunday. UMBC got a 2-4 day from Tim Kelly and Connor Hax, as UMBC falls to 13-11 on the year.

UMBC got things started in the second, as Jamie Switalski (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) reached base on a hit by pitch. He would move up to third on a Tim Kelly (Hampton, Va./York/Virginia Tech) single to left, setting up Raven Beeman (Somerset, Pa./Somerset). Beeman drilled a single to left to score Kelly, giving UMBC a 1-0 lead early.

Kevin Lachance showed off the wheels in the fifth, reaching on an infield single to lead things off for the Retrievers. He would steal second and advance to third on a throwing error the next batter, setting up Anthony Gatto (Hauppauge, N.Y./Smithtown West). Lachance would score on the wild pitch to give UMBC a 2-0 lead.

The Mount would answer the very next inning, as Tommy Quealy reached on an error, and scoring on a throwing error by Kelly to make it 2-1 UMBC. The Mountaineers would tack on another three runs late in the inning to take a 4-2 lead into the sixth.

MSM would add another in the seventh to make it 5-2 after a Denis Mikush (Burke, Va./Robinson) walk led to a Tyler Post RBI double.

Connor Hax (Bowie, Md./Bishop McNamara) would lead off the ninth with a solo home run to right, cutting the deficit to 5-3, but the Mountaineers would hold on for a 5-3 win, ending the Retrievers eight game win streak.

The Retrievers got a 2-4 day from Connor Hax including a home run on Sunday. Kelly ended his day 2-4 with an RBI.
