UMBC got things started in the second, as Jamie Switalski (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) reached base on a hit by pitch. Kevin Lachance showed off the wheels in the fifth, reaching on an infield single to lead things off for the Retrievers. He would steal second and advance to third on a throwing error the next batter, setting up Anthony Gatto (Hauppauge, N.Y./Smithtown West). Lachance would score on the wild pitch to give UMBC a 2-0 lead.
The Mount would answer the very next inning, as Tommy Quealy reached on an error, and scoring on a throwing error by Kelly to make it 2-1 UMBC. The Mountaineers would tack on another three runs late in the inning to take a 4-2 lead into the sixth.
MSM would add another in the seventh to make it 5-2 after a Denis Mikush (Burke, Va./Robinson) walk led to a Tyler Post RBI double.
Connor Hax (Bowie, Md./Bishop McNamara) would lead off the ninth with a solo home run to right, cutting the deficit to 5-3, but the Mountaineers would hold on for a 5-3 win, ending the Retrievers eight game win streak.
The Retrievers got a 2-4 day from Connor Hax including a home run on Sunday. Kelly ended his day 2-4 with an RBI.
