Red Hot UMBC Baseball Takes Five Game Winning Streak to George Washington on Tuesday

Baltimore, Md.—The Retrievers are riding a five game win streak that includes a sweep of UMass Lowell this past weekend. UMBC needed late game heroics from Jamie Switalski (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) on Sunday to complete the sweep and move to 10-10, 4-1 AE on the year.

Scouting the Retrievers (10-10, 4-1 AE):

-UMBC heads to the road for the first time in eight games, sitting at 10-10, 4-1 AE on the year, winners of their last five. The Retrievers are coming off a big conference sweep of UMass Lowell this past weekend. UMBC swept the double-header on Saturday by scores of 10-5 and 1-0, before winning the finale 4-3 on Sunday.

-Lachance leads the team offensively, hitting .438 through 20 games. He leads the team in hits (35) and is tied for the team lead with four home runs. Kevin has swiped 12 bases in 14 tries and is fourth in the nation in batting average. Teammates Anthony Gatto (Hauppauge, N.Y./Smithtown West) and Andrew Casali (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) are two–three on the team in hitting, with averages of .397 and .339 respectively.

-On the mound, Conrad Wozniak (Cypress, Texas/Cypress Woods/Frank Phillip) leads the starting rotation with a 4.28 ERA, going 2-2 in five starts. Wozniak leads the team with 27.1 innings pitched and team best 22 strikeouts. Senior Jonny Dierks (Easton, Md./Independence/Fort Scott CC) had a team best two saves with a 2.57 ERA.

Scouting the Colonials (8-16, 0-0 A10):

-George Washington heads to the mid-week contest at 8-16 overall, having lost their last five games. Most recently the Colonials were swept at the hands of Houston, getting outscored 24-2 in the three game set.

-A trio of Colonials are hitting over .300 this year, led by Mark Osis. Osis is batting .378 in 24 games, with a team best 34 hits and 13 RBI. Andrew Selby and Kevin Mahala are also hitting over .300 at .342 and .300 respectively. Selby has 25 hits with four doubles and a triple, while Mahala has 30 hits and a team best 13 doubles and 23 RBI.

-The Colonials pitching staff has a collective ERA of 4.92, with Bobby LeWarne leading the staff in almost every category. LeWarne has made six starts, going 2-2 with a 3.98 ERA. He has thrown 40.2 innings, giving up 36 hits and 18 earned runs while striking out 27 batters.
