  • UMBC Baseball To Host Fall Showcase Camp in October

    UMBC baseball head coach Bob Mumma and staff will host a prospect showcase camp on Saturday, Oct. 22 at Alumni Field. The camp will begin at 9 a.m. with a talk about the recruiting process, followed by hitting and pitching evaluations.

    Rising junior Matt Chanin (Olney, Md./Sherwood) and rising sophomore Jacob Christian (Nokesville, Va./Patriot) were named Cal Ripken League All-Stars, the league announced. Former Retriever captain Dave Warrenfeltz earned ABCA/Diamond High School Div. II Regional Coach of the Year for Region 2.
  • Pro Dawgs: Gatto, Wozniak Ink Pro Contracts with the Long Island Ducks and Gary Railcats

    A pair of former UMBC baseball players signed professional contracts this past week, as Anthony Gatto (Hauppauge, N.Y./Smithtown West) and Conrad Wozniak (Cypress, Texas/Cypress Woods/Frank Phillip) signed with the Long Island Ducks (Atlantic League) and the Gary (Ind.) Railcats (American Association) respectively.

    UMBC baseball senior Kevin Lachance (Clifton, Va./Centreville) continues to rack up the accolades following a stellar career and senior season with the Retrievers. Lachance was named to the ABCA (American Baseball Coaches Association)/Rawlings All-East Region Second Team, the ABCA announced on Wednesday.
  • Ten Retrievers to Compete in Summer Ball Across the Mid-Atlantic

    A handful of UMBC baseball players will play in collegiate summer leagues all across the Mid-Atlantic. The Retrievers are coming off a 28-23, 13-10 AE season in 2016, where they finished fourth in the conference, falling to Albany and Maine in the America East Tournament.
  • Kevin Lachance Picked in 10th Round of 2016 MLB Draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers

    UMBC baseball senior Kevin Lachance (Clifton, Va./Centreville) heard his named called late on day two of the 2016 MLB First Year Player Draft. The Clifton, Va. native was picked in the 10th round, pick number 311, by the Los Angeles Dodgers.
  • Dolshun, Lachance Earn All-ECAC Second Team Honors

    UMBC baseball senior Kevin Lachance (Clifton, Va./Centreville) and junior Hunter Dolshun (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) were named All-ECAC Second Team, the conference office announced on Tuesday afternoon. The ECAC (Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference) has over 300 members between Divisions I through III, all of which are located on the east coast of the United States. UMBC finished the season at 28-23, 13-10 AE.
  • Casali Earns America East All-Tournament Team Recognition

    UMBC baseball junior Andrew Casali (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) earned a spot on the America East Championship All-Tournament team for his efforts in the tournament. Casali and the Retrievers fell 8-5 to Albany, before being eliminated by Maine, 11-1.
  • Baseball falls to Albany in First Game of America East Tournament

    The UMBC Baseball team rallied from a 3-0 deficit to take a 5-3 lead, but Albany stormed back in the final innings to defeat the Retrievers, 8-5, in the first game of the America East Championships at LeLacheur Park in Lowell, Massachusetts.

Both Dolshun and Wright had big weeks for the Retrievers, who won three of their four games, including a series win against Hartford.

    UMBC baseball split with Hartford on Saturday, earning a top four seed in the upcoming America East Tournament. The Retrievers won game one 7-6 in extra innings, before falling in game two, 6-4. UMBC will conclude the regular season tomorrow, looking for a pair of losses by Stony Brook to clinch a three seed.

    UMBC baseball will face a familiar foe in James Madison on Tuesday, May 17 at 6 p.m. at Alumni Field. The Retrievers and Dukes played a three game series in Harrisonburg earlier this year, where the Dukes took two of three. UMBC is currently riding a six game winning streak, dating back to May 1, and are 25-20 on the year.
  • Carroll with the Heroics; Retrievers Win in Walk-Off Fashion, 3-2 on Friday

    Mitchell Carroll (Oakton, Va./Oakton) provided the heroics on Friday, getting the walk-off double to right to lift UMBC to a 3-2 victory against Delaware State on Friday. The Retrievers fell behind multiple times throughout the night, but got the hits when they needed to win their sixth straight, and move to 25-20 on the year.

    UMBC baseball returns to the diamond after a couple days off against the Hornets on Friday night at Alumni Field. The Retrievers most recently defeated Georgetown on Tuesday night, 9-4 to win their fifth in a row. UMBC sits at 24-20, 11-9 AE on the year with just over a week left in the regular season.

    UMBC baseball got big contributions from freshman AJ Wright (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) and junior Andrew Casali (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) in a 7-6 ten inning win on Sunday. Wright went 4-5 with three extra base hits and four RBIs, as Casali had three hits and picked up his third save of the year, and second this weekend as UMBC moves to 23-20, 11-9 AE.
  • Mumma Earns Career Victory Number 100; Retrievers Sweep UMass Lowell on Saturday

    UMBC baseball earned a pair of victories on Saturday against the River Hawks by scores of 7-3 and 2-1. Hunter Dolshun (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) had the big two RBI double in game two that gave UMBC the lead, and finished with three RBIs on the day as the Retrievers improve to 22-20, 10-9 AE on the year. After the game one win, head coach Bob Mumma picked up his 100th career victory.
  • UMBC Baseball Hits the Road for Final Road Games of the Season at UMass Lowell This Weekend

    UMBC baseball returns to the field after a week off at UMass Lowell this Saturday and Sunday. The three game set will be the final regular season road contests for the Retrievers, who will finish the season with seven home games. UMBC hasn’t played since Sunday, May 1, where the Retrievers knocked off Stony Brook 6-3 in extra innings to move to 20-20, 8-9 AE on the year.
