Retrievers Fall, 4-3 to Stony Brook on Friday on Day Two of  #AEChamps

Lowell, Mass.— UMBC fell 4-3 in a hard fought game against the Seawolves. The Retrievers fall to 33-19 on the year with the loss. Jamie Switalski (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) led the way going 2-4 from the plate. 

Connor Hax (Bowie, Md./Bishop McNamara) pushed the first run of the game across with a two out single to shallow center, scoring Hunter Dolshun (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley). Dolshun led off the inning with a walk. Redshirt Freshman Mitchell Carroll (Oakton, Va./Oakton) followed up with a double down the right field line that scored both Hax and Jamie Switalski. UMBC would take a 3-0 lead into the third.

Stony Brook would strike in their half of the inning, getting a pair of runs off a Peragine double to left. The Seawolves would tie the game with a sacrifice fly by Handley later in the stanza.

UMBC would threaten in the sixth by loading the bases after a Dolshun walk, and singles by Switalski and Andrew Casali (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan). However Stony Brook would get out of the jam with a ground out and a fly out to end the inning.

After an error by the Retrievers to start the seventh, Stony Brook would cash in on a single by Baker to give them a 4-3 lead.

The Retrievers would get Anthony Gatto (Hauppauge, N.Y./Smithtown West) to third after a lead-off single, but UMBC would once again come up empty.

Stony Brook would hold on to win, 4-3 to advance to the championship round. Switalski and Casali led the way with two hits each on the day.

UMBC will play Hartford in an elimination game to decide the opponent for Stony Brook in the championship round. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
