Baltimore, Md.—UMBC rallied in extra innings to sweep the first two games of the series with Albany. With the win, UMBC moves to 29-16, 12-8 AE on the year, and improve their win streak to 11 games.

Game One:

The Retrievers struck early and often against the Great Danes, getting a run in the bottom of the second off a Jaime Switalski (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) solo home run to left-center. UMBC followed that up with a trio of runs the very next inning, two coming off an Anthony Gatto (Hauppauge, N.Y./Smithtown West) two-run home run. Jake Barnes (Annandale, Va./Annandale) doubled home Nick Naumann (Essex, Md./John Carroll/Chestnut Hill) to make it 4-0 UMBC early.

UMBC would add to that lead in the fifth getting four runs in the inning. Switalski doubled home Naumann and Hunter Dolshun (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley). Barnes followed that up with a single to score Switalski, and Kevin Lachance (Clifton, Va./Centreville) walked to score Andrew Casali (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) to make it 9-0.

After getting a pair in the sixth, the Retrievers exploded for six runs in the seventh to take a 17-0 lead heading into the ninth. Albany would get one back in the last stanza, but that would be all as UMBC won 17-1 in the opener.

Freshman starter Matt Chanin (Olney, Md./Sherwood) picked up his fifth win of the year, throwing seven innings of shutout ball to earn the win. He struck out seven while walking just two.

Game Two:

UMBC got on the board first, scoring on a Barnes sac fly to score Dolshun, giving UMBC a 1-0 lead.

Albany took the lead in the third, scoring a pair of runs following a pair of Retriever errors to make it 2-1 Great Danes. However the Retrievers answered back, taking the lead with a four run fifth inning.

In that inning, Mitchell Carroll (Oakton, Va./Oakton) reached on a fielder's choice, and scored Switalski on a throwing error by Albany. Dolshun followed suit with an RBI walk, then a Naumann single scored Lachance and Gatto to make it 5-2 Retrievers.

Albany would get a trio of runs over the next two innings, including the tying run on a throwing error by Dolshun to force extras.

UMBC would prevail, getting the winning run on a Lachance single that scored Mark Esposito (Bethany, Conn./Amity Regional).

Denis Mikush (Burke, Va./Robinson) picked up his fourth win of the year, as the Retrievers moved to 29-16, 12-8 AE on the year, improving their win streak to 11 games.
