UMBC Completes Sweep of Binghamton on Sunday

Baltimore, Md.—UMBC baseball completed the sweep of America East rival Binghamton on Sunday. UMBC won game one 3-1, and the second game 4-0. UMBC improves to 10-9, 4-2 AE on the year.

Game One:

UMBC jumped ahead early, scoring three runs thanks to an Anthony Gatto (Hauppauge, N.Y./Smithtown West) triple to right. That would prove to be all the Retrievers needed, as starter Conrad Wozniak (Cypress, Texas/Cypress Woods/Frank Phillip) pitched six full innings to record the win.

Wozniak gave up just two hits and one run to get his first victory of the year. Junior Denis Mikush (Burke, Va./Robinson) came in the seventh and shut the door on the Bearcats to earn the save.

Game Two:

The Retrievers opened the second game with a run in their half of the first. Nick Naumann (Essex, Md./John Carroll/Chestnut Hill) led off the inning with single, and would later be brought in by Gatto. UMBC would make it 2-0 the very next inning thanks to a Jamie Switalski (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) home run to left field.

UMBC got an insurance run in the fourth inning, when Connor Hax (Bowie, Md./Bishop McNamara) plated Hunter Dolshun (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) to make it 3-0. They would add another in the eighth with an RBI single by Gatto.

Matt Chanin (Olney, Md./Sherwood) picked up his second win of the year, tossing five innings giving up four hits. Gatto led the offense, knocking in five of the seven Retriever runs on Sunday.

The Retrievers will be back in action on Tuesday, March 31 when they head to George Washington. First pitch with the Colonials is set for 3:00 p.m.
