UMBC Baseball Looks to Continue Their Winning Ways at The Citadel

Baltimore, Md.—UMBC baseball will take their two game win streak to South Carolina for a three game set against the Citadel. UMBC sits at 4-7 on the year.

Scouting the Retrievers (4-7, 0-0 AE):

UMBC is 2-1 in their last three games, to move to 4-5 on the year. Brady Zinda () and Nick Naumann (Essex, Md./john Carroll/Chestnut Hill)  lead the team in batting average at .389 and .357 respectively. Conrad Wozniak (Cypress, Texas/Cypress/Frank Phillip College) came off a masterful seven innings of shutout ball against Toledo. However, the Retrievers failed to score a run as the Rockets took a 1-0 win. Joe Vanderplas (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax/Tennessee) threw a complete game, five hitter against Hartford on Sunday in a 6-1 win.

UMBC is 2-0 so far this week, having put up 33 hits and 24 runs in those two games. Prior to this week, UMBC has had 24 runs in their previous nine games combined.

The Retrievers have had three players earn conference player of the week honors. Hunter Dolshun (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) earned Player of the Week, while Conrad Wozniak  earned Pitcher of the Week two weeks ago. Joe Vanderplas is the newest member to the club. Vanderplas earned Pitcher of the Week this past week.

Scouting the Bulldogs (12-7, 0-0 SoCon):

The Citadel is 12-7 on the year, having won their last seven contests. Their last loss came all the way back on March 6 against Elon. The weekend series with the Retrievers will be their fourteenth straight home game, and eighteenth overall.

The Bulldogs are led by Stephen Windham, who is hitting .426 on the year. Windham is 23 for 54 from the dish, while adding 17 RBI's and five doubles on the year. James Reeves is 3-0 on the year, posting an ERA of 3.24. He has added 36 strikeouts, while only walking nine batters.
