READING, Pa. - Former UMBC standout and current Bowie Baysox pitcher Zach Clark (Newark, Del./Newark) has been chosen to represent the organization at the 2012 Baseballtown All-Star Classic at FirstEnergy Stadium on Wed., July 11, the league announced Thursday evening.
Clark's All Star selection comes just a week after the he was named the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week.
This season the right-hander is 6-4 with a 3.12 ERA in 13 starts for the Baysox. Over the course of 80.2 innings of work at the Double-A level, Clark has recorded 42 strikeouts while issuing only 20 walks. In addition, the former Retriever went 2-0 with a 2.38 ERA while pitching for the Triple-A Norfolk Tides.
After a five-year playing career at UMBC as both a pitcher and designated hitter, Clark was signed by the Baltimore Orioles as a non-drafted free agent in 2006. The righty had his best year at UMBC as a senior when he went 1-6 with a 3.86 ERA. For his career Clark made 41 total starts, the third-highest total in school history while also striking out 171 batters, the sixth-highest total for the Retrievers.
Clark will be joined on the Western Division squad by four other Baysox when they take on the East Division All Stars at the home of the Reading Phillies.
