Baseball Falls at Georgetown, 12-2, Tuesday Afternoon

BETHESDA, Md.—The UMBC baseball team fell at Georgetown, 12-2, Tuesday afternoon at Shirley Povich Field. With the loss, the Retrievers fall to 4-17, while the Hoyas improve to 18-12. 

Freshman Rob McCabe (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Joseph's) scored on a freshman Bryan Perlmutter (Hillsdale, N.J./Pascack Valley) RBI groundout in the seventh.


In the bottom of the ninth, freshman Kevin Kean (Millersville, Md./Old Mill) singled with the bases loaded to score junior Brian Klukowicz (Clifton, Md./St. Peter's Prep).


Junior starter Sean Swetnam (Greenbelt, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt/George Mason) (1-1) allowed one run in three innings of the work, but picked up the loss.


Georgetown starter Tommy Isaacs pitched five scoreless innings to move to 1-1 on the season.


Hoya Erick Fernandez went three-for-five with a home run and four runs driven in.


Wednesday's game at Delaware has been cancelled due to scheduling conflicts. The game will not be made up. The Retrievers will return to action this weekend when they open America East play against Binghamton. Saturday's doubleheader starts at 3:30, while Sunday's single game begins at 1 p.m.
