Baseball Drops 6-2 Decision at George Washington Wednesday

ARLINGTON, Va.—The UMBC baseball allowed just two earned runs, but fell to George Washington, 6-2, Wednesday afternoon at Barcroft Park. The Retrievers fell to 0-5 with the loss, while GW improved to 3-9. 

The Colonials struck for four runs off of freshman starter Shane Vlasic (Ashburn, Va./Broad Run) (0-1) after the Retrievers committed two errors.


Junior Sean Swetnam (Greenbelt, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt/George Mason) only allowed one unearned run in five innings of relief for UMBC, striking out five, while the Colonials scored an unearned run off of fellow junior Luke DiBlasi (Pleasant Valley, N.Y./Arlington) in the eighth.


The Retrievers scored their first run in the eighth when junior Bryan Klukowicz (Clifton, N.J./St. Peter's Prep) doubled to score freshman Rob McCabe (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Joseph's). UMBC added a run in the ninth when senior Casey Medairy (Elkridge, Md./Howard) scored on a GW error.


George Washington starter Tom Gately (2-1) struck out seven in eight innings of work to earn the win.


UMBC returns to action this weekend when they host Fairfield in a three-game series Saturday and Sunday.
