Box Score Baltimore, Md.-- Sophomore Dylan Poetzel (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) tied it in the second half, with junior Nick Gumbs (Clarksburg, Md./Damascus) providing the heroics in double overtime to give UMBC a 2-1 win on Tuesday. Both Gumbs and Poetzel scored their first career goals in the match.
How We Got Here:

Tre Pulliam (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) had the first golden chance of the match in the 7th minute. Pulliam stole the ball at the top of the box, and put a good shot on net, but the Wildcat keeper made the save.

Just minutes later, Cesare Marconi (Loano, Italy) blasted a free kick from 24 yards out, but just missed the net.

The Wildcats struck first in the 20th minute, as Shane Bradley found the ball after it bounced around in the box, placing it past Jones to give Villanova the lead.

Pulliam once again nearly scored, but his one-time rip from 15 yards out was stopped by a sprawling Williams save.

The Retrievers had a good chance midway through the second half. Jon Bell (Silver Spring, Md./Richard Montgomery) served a free kick into the box, but it was turned aside.

Bell nearly struck in the 70th minute off a free kick. His cross attempt kept bending toward the goal, forcing Williams to make a play on the ball.

The Retrievers finally broke through on a goal from Dylan Poetzel in the 83rd minute. Poetzel collected the rebound off the Marconi free kick, and placed it home for his first collegiate goal.

Quantrell Jones (Baltimore, Md./Kenwood) kept it tied with a spectacular save in the 88th minute, pushing the ball over the bar on a shot out in front to force overtime.

After neither side could get anything going in the first overtime session, UMBC walked off with the win in the second frame.

Nick Gumbs took a header from Jordan Dove (Gambrills, Md./DeMatha) off a Patrick Jean-Gilles (Woodbridge, Va.) free kick and put it home to give UMBC the win.
