Jon Kindred joined the UMBC Athletics staff in February 2012 and currently serves as an academic advisor for the men's lacrosse program as well as the men's and women's tennis programs. He additionally serves as the athletic department tutor coordinator.
Kindred came to Baltimore after working as the Academic Success Coordinator at Saint Francis University from July 2011 to January 2012. During his time at Saint Francis, Kindred was responsible for the coordination of the campus-wide peer tutoring program, as well as directing a mentoring program featuring faculty and staff, designed to provide academic support to students on academic probation. Most notably, he gained experience working with Division I student-athletes while serving as the Red Flash’s primary advisor for at-risk exploratory freshmen student-athletes for the football team, in addition to the men’s and women’s basketball programs.
From May 2009 until July 2010, Kindred served as the men’s basketball team’s head graduate manager also at Saint Francis University where he monitored student-athletes’ academic performance, as well as assisted in coordinating team travel and recruiting efforts.
In addition to his collegiate experience, Kindred has also spent time working in the MLB and the NBA with the Pittsburgh Pirates and New York Knicks.
Kindred earned a Bachelor of Science in sport management from DeSales University in 2008. He continued his education at Saint Francis University where in August 2010 he graduated with a Master’s degree in educational leadership.
Kindred and his wife Emily currently reside in Bowie, Md.
