Community Outreach

The UMBC Athletics Community Outreach Program is dedicated to serving others through volunteer efforts in the surrounding community. UMBC student-athletes are committed to making a positive impact and do so by volunteering their time and talents to a variety of causes each year.

Some of the ongoing community service events and programs include:

Mentoring Program
Pairs a UMBC student-athlete with an at-risk elementary school student to promote academic and personal growth. UMBC student-athletes volunteer weekly at three local elementary schools: Relay Elementary, Halethorpe Elementary, and Catonsville Elementary.

School Visits
UMBC student-athletes and coaches travel to local schools and talk with students about the importance of education and physical fitness. UMBC student-athletes also read to students and conduct sport-specific clinics.

Midday Madness
Every January local elementary and middle school students are invited to campus for the day. They get a tour of campus led by our student-athletes and then get to watch a UMBC women's basketball game. The annual event is an exciting way for young students to experience a college campus.

Charitable Giving
UMBC student-athletes participate in a variety of events to raise money for local non-profit organizations. Some events include: Komen Maryland Race for the Cure, Play4Kay, and Better To9ether.

The UMBC Women's softball team participated in our Love the Hopeful Market- a Fresh Fruit and Produce Market that provides the HopeFul (homeless) of Baltimore city access to free healthy fresh food options in food desserts on the 3rd Saturday of the month.  (See https://lovethehopeful. org for more info)
