Sixteen Returning Retrievers Earn Department's Initial GRIT Award

UMBC Athletics is pleased to announce its 2017-18 recipients of the GRIT award. Sixteen Retriever student-athletes have earned these initial awards.

 

The annual GRIT award will be given to a returning member (or members) of a UMBC athletic team.  The recipients will be returning student-athletes that have distinguished themselves amongst teammates by demonstrating the department's core values of growth, respect, Integrity and teamwork during the previous athletic year. 

 

The 2017-18 award winners are: Jenna Baverman (women's lacrosse), Katie Berkowitz (women's soccer), Jason Brewster (men's lacrosse), Mitchell Carroll (baseball),  Matt Chanin (baseball), Chukwuma Chiamaka (women's basketball), Alex Gilese (men's swimming and diving), Matt Kingeter (cross country), Madison Koenig (women's soccer), Marshall MacCartney (men's soccer), Laura Massicotte (women's swimming and diving), Courtney Mattson (cross country), Kayla Renehan (women's lacrosse), Sam Schwietz (men's basketball), Eric Smart (cross country) Kristin Watson (volleyball).

 

The recipients were honored in front of their peers at the department's Welcome Back/Kick-Off celebration in late August.
