MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY PLACES THIRD AT MT. ST. MARY'S INVITATIONAL

The UMBC men's cross country team placed a strong third in the Mt. St. Mary's Invitational,while the women finished in ninth place. Georgetown ran away with the women's team honors with a score of 15 followed by Bucknell(76); American (107); Kutztown (117); St. Francis (Pa.) (133); The Mount (146); Loyola (190);George Washington (215); UMBC (228); UMES (321); Cleveland St. (334); Howard (371) andCoppin St. (411). Bucknell University won the men's bracket with a score of 31 followed by St. Francis (Pa.)(83); UMBC (101); Navy (106); American (129); The Mount (205); Kutztown (213); GeorgeWashington (232); Coppin St. (262); George Mason (280); DeSales (282); Howard (285);Loyola (360) and UMES (392). On the men's side, sophomore Doug Allen continued his excellent fall,with a seventh placefinish, covering the 8000 meter course in a time of 26:16.70. Junior Ben Werbos and seniorJake Klim finished 13th and 14th respectively in times of 26:36.30 and 26:37.50. Rounding outUMBC's top five were sophomore Adam Driscoll (38th-27:17.30) and junior Phil Knowlton(39th-27.18.80).For the women, senior Jen Ecker paced the team, placing 15th in a time of 19:08.40 for the5000 meters. Freshman Cara Wettlaufer was next at 20:34.40, placing 53rd, followed by juniorOhita Asein (21:03.70), Sarah Bowling (21:06.20) and Candice Weinreich (22:09.50). Both teams have the week off, before competing at the Maryland State meet at Anne ArundelCommunity College on October 6.
