Parkinson Finishes Third as UMBC Cross Country Competes in Princeton Invitational

PRINCETON, N.J.—The UMBC men’s and women’s cross county took part of the Princeton Invitational on Saturday morning, with the men finishing in eighth, while junior Sara Parkinson (Lancashire, England/Loughborough University) finished third overall to lead the women’s side to a ninth place finish.

Senior Anthony Kelhower (Mt. Laurel, N.J./Lenape) led the Retriever men across the line in a time of 24:54.00 for 26th place overall. Sophomore Paul Zwama (Groningen, Netherlands/CSG Dingstede) finished in 29th overall in a time of 24:55.70, while senior Andrew Madison (Edgewater, Md./South River) placed 39th with a time of 25:09.80. Sophomores Michael Christmas (Invercargill, New Zealand/James Hargest College) and Chris Snyder (McConnellsburg, Pa./McConnellsburg) rounded out the scoring for UMBC.

On the women’s side, Parkinson completed her second straight impressive meet, finishing in a time of 22:13.50, 11 seconds behind Maryland’s Erin Matyus, who won the race. Junior Suzanne Gabriel (Falls Church, Va./McLean) was second for the Retrievers, finishing in 23:16.40, good enough for 29th overall. Freshman Keri Wilson (Columbia, Md./Long Reach) was 85th in a time of 24:26.40, while sophomore Cortney Crouse (Union Bridge, Md./Linganore) and senior Emily Saltsman (Fallston, Md./Fallston) rounded out the scoring.

The Retrievers return to action Saturday, Nov. 1, when they host the America East Championship at Oregon Ridge Park in Cockeysville, Md.
