UMBC Men's Cross Country Finishes Eighth at Navy Invitational

    Sophomore Paul Zwama finished eighth overall at the Navy Invitational Saturday.

    ANNOPOLIS, Md.—The UMBC men’s cross country team finished eighth in the Navy Invitational Saturday, while the women’s team placed 14th in the Salty Dog Invitational.

     

    Sophomore Paul Zwama (Groningen, Netherlands/CSG Dingstede) led the Retrievers across the line, finishing in eighth place overall with a time of 25:23.50. UMBC finished eighth out of 14 schools, with Navy taking the team title.

     

    Senior Anthony Kelhower (Mt. Laurel, N.J./Lenape) was finished 25th with a time of 26:19.90, while senior Andrew Madison (Edgewater, Md./South River) finished 28th in 26:30.40.

     

    The final two scoring men were senior Josh Okoniewski (Lusby, Md./Patuxent) in 69th place in 27:46.70 and sophomore Chris Bowie (Bethesda, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) in 71st place with a time of 27:49.40.

     

    On the women’s side, junior Suzanne Gabriel (Falls Church, Va./McLean) led the Retrievers across the line, finishing in 41st place in a time of 24:33.07.  Freshman Keri Wilson finished second for UMBC, while juniors Sarah Murphy (Dover, Del./Dover), Mairin Leahy (Tawneytown, Md./Francis Scott Key) and sophomore Cortney Crouse (Union Bridge, Md./Linganore) rounded out the scoring five.

     

    The Retrievers return to action Oct. 3 as they take part of the Towson Invitational in Cockeysville, Md. at 4 p.m.
