Cortney Crouse and the Retrievers travel to Navy Saturday.

BALTIMORE—The UMBC men’s and women’s cross country teams travel to Annapolis, Md. Saturday to race in the Navy Invitational and Salty Dog Invitational, respectively.

Last year, both teams placed eighth at the Navy Invitational as senior Alex Hyland (Toms River, N.J./Toms River South) led the Retrievers with a 10th place finish.

This year's men's meet will have a total of 15 teams and 149 runners, while the women's meet will have a total of 16 teams and 216 runners, both are one of the largest fields in course history.

Sophomore Paul Zwama (Groningen, Netherlands/CSG Dingstede) led the Retriever men across the line in the Mount St. Mary’s Dual 5K’s on Aug.29 as they will look to continue their early season success as they went 5-0 in Emmitsburg, Md.

On the women’s side, junior Suzanne Gabriel (Falls Church, Va./McLean) led UMBC across the line at the Mount, where the women were 0-5-1 on the day.
