ANNAPOLIS, Md.—The men’s and women’s cross country teams both placed eighth at the Navy Invitational on Saturday in Annapolis, Md.
Senior Alex Hyland (Toms River, N.J./Toms River South) cracked the top 10 at the competition, leading the Retrievers across the line with a 10th place finish in a time of 22:49.00 for the 6K course as the Retrievers placed eighth with 208 total places.
Sophomore Suzanne Gabriel (Falls Church, Va./McLean) was the next Retriever to finish as she turned in a time of 24:14.00 for a 37th place finish.
Senior Tawny Barin (Columbus, N.J./N. Burlington County) improved on her finish from last year’s meet as she ran a time of 25:47.00 in Saturday’s 6K while freshman Cortney Crouse (Union Bridge, Md./Linganore) and junior Allison Mathis (Williamstown, N.J./Williamstown) rounded out the scoring five.
On the men’s side, junior Andrew Madison (Edgewater, Md./South River) led the Retrievers across the line, finishing the 8K course in a time of 25:37.50 for 31st place, more than a minute faster than his previous best time of 26:52.4 from last year’s conference championships.
Freshman Paul Zwama (Groningen, Netherlands/CSG Dingstede) finished next, running a time of 25:56.20 to finish 44th.
Freshman Chris Snyder (McConnellsburg, Pa./McConnellsburg), and juniors Josh Okoniewski (Lusby, Md./Patuxent) and Anthony Kelhower (Mt. Laurel, N.J./Lenape) rounded out the scoring five with times of 26:40.40, 26:48.40, and 26:55.90 for finishes of 63rd, 67th, and 68th, respectively.
The Retrievers return to competition next weekend when they travel to Lehigh University for the Paul Short Run in Bethlehem, Pa.
