Men’s Cross Country Takes Fourth, Women Place Fifth At Navy Invitational

The UMBC men’s cross country team took fourth place with a team score of 114 while the women’s cross country team placed fifth with a team score of 141 at the Navy Salty Sea Dog Run on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore Anthony Kelhower led the men’s team in the 8K run while freshman Suzanne Gabriel was the top 6K finisher on the women’s side for UMBC.
Kelhower crossed the line in a time of 26:01 as the top Retriever, placing 16th overall in the meet. Shawn Shokry placed 22nd in 26:13 followed closely by J.J. Wetzel in 25th in 26:13 and Matt Cowley in 28th in 26:33. Andrew Madison rounded out the Retriever scoring with a 33rd place finish in 27:02.
Gabriel came in an impressive 13th place to the Retriever women across the line as she scored with a time of 24:07.25. Kathleen Galan finished 16th overall in 24:15.42. UMBC’s other top scorers were Morgan Little in 44th with a time of 25:28.75, Mairin Leahy in 54th in 26:05.26 and Emily Saltsman in 56th in 26:10.20.
