MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY TAKES THIRD, WOMEN EIGHTH AT LAFAYETTE INVITATIONAL

Shawn Shokry led the men's team at Lafayette on Saturday.

The UMBC men’s and women’s cross country teams competed at the Lafayette Invitational on Saturday afternoon with the men placing third overall and the women eighth.  The men’s five mile run consisted of 113 competitors and 11 schools while the women’s race was a 5,800 meter run filled with 12 schools and 97 competitors.

 

Shawn Shokry led the Retriever men, placing 18th overall in 27:19.80.  J.J. Wetzel was the next Retriever across the line, taking 21st in 27:24.10.  Within a span of nine seconds the next three Retrievers finished as Ryan Cartwright took 30th in 27:41.40, Blake Davis in 32nd in 27:46.70 and Izudin Mehmedovic in 33rd in 27:50.80. 

 

On the women’s side Kathleen Galan led the charge, taking 28th in 22:36.80.  Tawny Barin finished 58th in 24:10.40 and was followed by Morgan Little in 61st in 24:34.90, Allison Mathis in 63rd in 24:42.40 and Emily Saltsman in 75th in 26.03.40. 

 

The Retrievers return to the course at the America East Conference Championships held on October 29th at Binghamton.
