MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY TAKES THIRD, WOMEN EIGHTH AT LAFAYETTE INVITATIONAL

Shawn Shokry led the men's team at Lafayette on Saturday.

The UMBC men’s and women’s cross country teams competed at the Lafayette Invitational on Saturday afternoon with the men placing third overall and the women eighth.  The men’s five mile run consisted of 113 competitors and 11 schools while the women’s race was a 5,800 meter run filled with 12 schools and 97 competitors.

Shawn Shokry led the Retriever men, placing 18^th overall in 27:19.80.  J.J. Wetzel was the next Retriever across the line, taking 21^st in 27:24.10.  Within a span of nine seconds the next three Retrievers finished as Ryan Cartwright took 30^th in 27:41.40, Blake Davis in 32^nd in 27:46.70 and Izudin Mehmedovic in 33^rd in 27:50.80. 

On the women’s side Kathleen Galan led the charge, taking 28^th in 22:36.80.  Tawny Barin finished 58^th in 24:10.40 and was followed by Morgan Little in 61^st in 24:34.90, Allison Mathis in 63^rd in 24:42.40 and Emily Saltsman in 75^th in 26.03.40. 

The Retrievers return to the course at the America East Conference Championships held on October 29^th at Binghamton.
