UMBC MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY COMPETES AT MARYLAND STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS

    Chris Baumler led the Retrievers across the line at Oregon Ridge on Friday evening.

    Hunt Valley, Md. – The UMBC men’s cross country team competed at the Maryland State Championships Friday evening, placing third as a team in the Maryland State meet and sixth overall in the Blue Jay Invitational.  The Retrievers competed in one 8k race at Oregon Ridge Park in Hunt Valley, Md., with team scoring for Maryland state programs (Maryland State Championships) and for the entire race, including out of state programs (John’s Hopkins Blue Jay Invitational).

     

    Chris Baumler led the Retrieves across the line in 28:02.00 for a 13th overall finish and the fourth best finish in the Maryland State Championship scoring.  Freshman Josh Okoniewski took 35th in 28:49.00 while Alex Driscoll came across the line as the third Retriever runner in 42nd in 29:00.00.  Mike Brady with a 68th place finish in 29:50.00 and Nick Keane with a 99th place finish in 30:51.00 rounded out the Retriever scoring.  Jared Matlick also ran for UMBC with a 111th place finish in 31:22.00.

     

    The men’s race consisted of 162 total competitors from 15 programs overall.  Swarthmore finished as the top program while Salisbury and Johns Hopkins tied to beat the Retrievers in the Maryland State meet results.
