MEN’S AND WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY COMPETES AT NAVY INVITATIONAL

Shawn Shokry placed 14th to lead the men to a third place finish.

The UMBC men’s and women’s cross country teams competed at Navy on Saturday as the men’s team took third place out of six teams in the 8K Navy Invitational Run while the women’s team went 0-6 in dual meet scoring at the Navy Salty Sea Dog 6K Invitational.  UMBC in both runs competed against host Navy, American, Berry College, George Washington, Colgate women’s team and Howard. 

 

Izudin Mehmedovic led the men’s team placing 11th overall in 26:02.72.  Shawn Shokry took 14th place in 26:19.63, J.J Wetzel placed 17th in 26:30.75, Blake Davis finished 23rd in 27:07.31 and Ryan Cartwright rounded out the UMBC scoring in 27:41.82 for 27th overall.

 

Stefanie Thomas led the women’s team across the line with a 6K mark of 25:04.77 for 19th place.  Allison Mathis came in 45th in 26:36.23 as the freshman finished as the second Retriever across the line.  Tawny Barin was close behind in 48th in 28:46.23 with Emily Saltsman finishing 60th in 28:00.95 and Morgan Little 64th in 28:10.53 to round out the women’s scoring.
