2005 Cross Country Team opens the season on Sept. 2 at the Mount St. Mary's Invitational.

Baltimore, Md. – Check out the 2005 UMBC Cross Country Prospectus online featuring all the information on the upcoming 2005 season.  Quick facts, 2005 roster, 2005 schedule and results from the 2004 season are available by going to the prospectus on the cross country home page or by clicking on the link inside the full story.

UMBC will take to the course in eight meets this year, opening the season at the Mount St. Mary’s Invitational on Sept. 2.  UMBC will compete in three events the first three weeks of the season before breaking a week to get ready for the always competitive annual Lehigh Paul Short Run.  The America East Cross Country Championships will be held at the University of Binghamton on Oct. 29 with the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Meet to take place on Nov. 12

On the men’s side, UMBC will be led by the combo of Izudin Mehmedovic and Shawn Shokry, who finished as UMBC’s top-two runners in all seven meets last year.  Mehmedovic finished 13th in the America East Championships and is looking for a big senior year.

On the women’s side, captains Stefanie Thomas and Kathleen Galan return to anchor the Retrievers.  Thomas saw her streak of 13-consecutive finishes as the top Retriever end last year in the first meet of the season, finishing directly behind Cara Wettlaufer at the Mount St. Mary’s Duals.  Thomas struggled through some injuries last season but looks to improve on her 13th place finish at the conference championships.  Galan returned from injury last season halfway through the year and came on strong for UMBC as the season went on.
