CROSS COUNTRY SQUADS COMPETE AT LEHIGH PAUL SHORT RUN

Bethlehem, Pa. - The UMBC Cross Country men’s and women’s squads took to the course at the Lehigh Paul Short Run on Saturday afternoon as the men’s team placed 19th out of 24 teams and the women’s team placed 20th out of 26 teams in competition.
Shawn Shockry was the men’s top finisher in 88th with a time of 25:41.47 over the 8K course. Izudin Mehmedovic was the Retrievers’ next top runner at 25:58.91. Other Retriever scorers were Ryan Cartwright (26:15.42), Aaron Smith (27:00.01) and J.J. Wetzel (27:11.27).
On the women’s side Stefanie Thomas took 44th on the 5K course with a time of (22:03.30). Cara Wettlaufer (22:45.27) led the rest of the Retriever scorers with a 79th place finish. Rounding out the Retriever five was U’Tonna Sherrod (23:38.12), Morgan Little (24:10.86) and Jennifer Hickey (24:15.79).
The Retrievers return to action at the Maryland State Championships held on October 9 at Hagerstown Community College.
