Four Retrievers Record Top-10 Finishes as Cross Country Opens Season at Mount St. Mary's Dual 5K's

    EMMITSBURG, Md.—Sophomore Brandan McGee (Hiram, Ohio/Crestwood) finished fourth and senior Keri Wilson (Columbia, Md./Long Reach) placed seventh, respectively, as the UMBC men’s and women’s cross country teams opened up the 2011 season at the Mount St. Mary’s Dual 5K’s. The men, who are ranked 12th in the Mid-Atlantic Region preseason rankings, finished in a tie for second with a record of 4-1-1, while the women placed fourth with a record of 3-3.

     

    McGee led the Retrievers across the line in a time of 15:33.07, while senior Sam Boimov (Montgomery Village, Md./Gaithersburg/Salisbury) and junior TJ Cowing (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) finished seventh and 10th overall. Senior Chris Snyder (McConnellsburg, Pa./McConnellsburg) placed 15th and freshman Eric Schuler (Columbia, Md.) rounded out the scoring five in 19th overall.

     

    Wilson was the top female for UMBC in a time of 18:55.55, while freshman Julie Gessler (Ellicott City, Md./Institute of Notre Dame) finished 20th overall in a time of 19:39.37. Fellow freshman Mary Katherine Kulp (Vestal, N.Y.), sophomore Cody Mezebish (Westminster, Md./South Carroll) and freshman Alyse Gibson (Columbia, Md./Reservoir) rounded out the scoring five.

     

    The Retrievers return to action Saturday, Sept. 17 in Annapolis, Md., for the Navy Invitational.
