BALTIMORE – The Retrievers' men's and women's cross country teams return to action this weekend at the Princeton Invitational at West Windsor Field in Princeton, N.J. Saturday morning, the men will compete in an 8K race, while the women will participate in a 6K race.
Both squads are well rested as their last meet was over a week and a half ago, when they both placed 4th at the Mason Invitational in Leesburg, Va. The men's team was led by sophomore Eric Schuler(Columbia, Md./Reservoir) who finished the race in 19th place. Juniors Tom Eldridge (Rocky River, Ohio/Rocky River) and Vinny DiSalvo (Washingtonville, N.Y./Washingtonville), as well as freshmenHassan Omar (Frederick, Md./Thomas Johnson) and Austin Hayslett (Mount Airy, Md./Urbana), also recorded scoring times for the Retrievers.
Junior Brandan McGee (Hiram, Ohio/Crestwood), one of the Retrievers' top runners, will look to get back to early-season form after not scoring at the Mason Invitational. McGee led the way for UMBC in each of the first two meets this season at the Spider Alumni Open and the Navy Invitational.
The Retriever women were led by junior Cody Mezebish (Westminster, Md./South Carroll) who has been the top UMBC finisher in two of the four meets this season. Sarah Daly (Lake Orion, Mich./Lake Orion)and Kirsten McGovern (Sykesville, Md/Century) have also finished at the front of the squad this season at the Spider Alumni Open and the Towson Invitational, respectively. The Retrievers will look for another solid performance from freshman Nicole Dawson (Jessup, Md./Hammond) who has finished second among the UMBC women in each of the past three meets.
This is the last regular season meet for the Retrievers before they head to the America East Championship meet on Oct. 27, at the University of New Hampshire.
