Poll
Men's Soccer was picked third in the America East preseason poll. How do you think they will fare in 2010?
They will exceed expectations and capture a regular season and/or tournament title.
Meet expectations; earn a playoff spot, but not have the juice to win a championship.
The league could "stand on its head" again this year, but the lower ranked teams rising above the preseason favorites. Retrievers might be in danger of having the bubble burst.

Alyssa Lang Named America East Volleyball Rookie of the Year

11/20/2008

Freshman Alyssa Lang won a conference-record 8 Rookie of the Week awards.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass—Freshman Alyssa Lang (Richmond, Va./Deep Run) has been named America East Volleyball Rookie of the Year for 2008, as announced by the conference Thursday. Lang and sophomore Bridget Scheetz (St. Louis, Mo./Ursuline Academy) have been named to the All-Conference Second Team, while freshman Allie Spaay (Kenosha, Wisc./Kenosha Tremper) has been named to the All-Rookie team along with Lang.

Lang becomes the third Retriever in four years to win Rookie of the Year. Juniors Ashley Oscars (Bakersfield, Calif./Liberty) and Sarah Ball (Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada/Sisler) won the award in 2006 and 2005, respectively.

Lang won an all-time conference high eight Rookies of the Week this year and led the Retrievers right out of the gate with two double-doubles in the opening weekend of play. She finished with 10 double-doubles during the regular season and averaged 2.85 kills and 2.82 digs per set. Lang’s service game was also strong, serving up 41 aces on the year and averaging 0.38 aces per set, fourth in America East.

Scheetz has followed up an outstanding freshman season with an equally impressive second campaign. The sophomore has 106 assisted blocks, the second-most in school history, behind only her freshman year of 112. She leads the Retrievers with 1.02 blocks per set, good enough for fourth in the conference, and has hit 243 kills at a .255 hitting percentage, eighth in the America East.

Spaay started 11 matches for the Retrievers this year, averaging 8.52 assists per set. The freshman also added 76 digs, 23 total blocks and 10 service aces on the season.
