UMBC VOLLEYBALL OPENS VILLANOVA INVITATIONAL WITH 3-1 WIN OVER MANHATTAN

    Villanova, Pa. – The UMBC women’s volleyball team opened competition at the Villanova Invitational with a 3-1 win over Manhattan College on Friday afternoon. 

     

    The Retrievers pulled out the opening game with a 32-30 win, hitting a match high 19 kills to grab the early 1-0 advantage.  In game two, the Jaspers hit .406 with 16 kills on 32 attempts to win 18-30 and tie the match series at 1-1.

     

    After the second game loss, the Retrievers bounced back and took the final two games of the match, 30-22 and 31-29 for the 3-1 victory.

    Leading the way for the Retrievers was Megan Gross (Mont Clair, Va./Forest Park) who notched 48 assist and 10 digs. Jocelyn Teoh (Puchong, Malaysia/Bujit Jalil Sports Acad.) added 17 kills and 17 digs in the victory and last weeks America East Player of the Week Jennifer Davis (Ontario, Canada/Sir Allen Macnab) had 15 kills, hitting .484.

    The Retrievers will continue play in the Villanova Tournament tomorrow when they face Pennsylvania at12:00 p.m. prior to taking on host school Villanova at 3:00 p.m.
