CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – UMBC junior Mallory McIntyre (Winnipeg, Manitoba/St. Mary’s Academy) has been named the America East Setter of the Week for the second time this season, the conference office announced on Monday afternoon.  McIntyre also garnered the award back on Sept. 17 after earning a spot on the Pirate Invitational All-Tournament Team.

McIntyre earns the honor after totaling 92 assists this past weekend as UMBC defeated Albany in four sets on Friday before sweeping Hartford on Sunday.

In the win on Friday, the Retrievers’ first against the Great Danes since 2007, the junior dished out a career-high 59 assists while also scooping up 15 digs for her fourth double-double of the season.  McIntyre has now handed out 50 or more assists on four occasions this season after recording 51 against Binghamton on Oct. 19, and 50 each at Albany and versus Providence.

On Sunday, McIntyre was equally efficient for the Retrievers, registering 33 assists in a three-set win over Hartford.   Behind her setting, UMBC out-hit the Hawks .231-.018.

For the season, McIntyre has handed out 633 assists and currently sits in second in the America East averaging 9.74 assists per set.

The weekly honor is the fifth of the year for UMBC as freshman Sherelle Walker (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) was named the Rookie of the Week twice while also earning Player of the Week once.

UMBC closes out its regular season this Friday, Nov. 9 at Stony Brook with the match scheduled for 3 p.m.
