Head Coach Ian Blanchard

BALTIMORE – UMBC head volleyball coach Ian Blanchard announced today that outside hitter Sherelle Walker has signed a National Letter of Intent to play her collegiate volleyball in Baltimore for the Retrievers in 2012.

“We’re very excited for Sherelle to join us at UMBC,” said head coach Ian Blanchard.  “She is a very outgoing young woman that will add a lot to our team culture.

The New Freedom, Pa. native is coming off of a very successful high school career at Susquehannock High School where she was named the 2011 PIAA Player of the Year while leading the Warriors to the Division II State Championship as well as the PIAA District III Championship.  In addition, she was named to the PIAA All-State Team twice in her four-year career.

“Sherelle is extremely talented on the court,” Blanchard said.  “She has the potential to be physically dominant if she can work hard and convert her athleticism to become a skilled and productive volleyball player.

Off the court, Walker is a member of the National Honor Society at Susquehannock in addition to acting as the President of the Community Club and Vice President of the Literary Magazine.
