Volleyball Standout Hallie Carter Voted UMBC Athlete of the Month for September

BALTIMORE—Sophomore outside hitter Hallie Carter of the volleyball team was named UMBC’s Athlete of the Month for September 2011 in a poll of fans conducted from Oct. 4-10. Carter received 69 of 147 total votes (46.9 percent) to edge runner-up Sean Rothe of men’s soccer (48 votes, 32.7 percent). Lauren Kadet of women’s soccer and Brandan McGee and Keri Wilson of cross country were also nominated.

 

Carter led the Retrievers with 3.67 digs per set and ranked second on the team with 2.72 kills per set while adding nine service aces in 13 September matches. The Huntington Beach, Calif., native recorded a team season-high 26 digs against Rhode Island at the Penn Invitational, and her 17 kills against Fairleigh Dickinson at the Madison Bingaman Memorial Tournament are the second-most by a Retriever this season. In addition, she hit a season-best .429 against Coppin State at the Battle of Baltimore with 13 kills against just one error, and she was named to the all-tournament teams for the Battle of Baltimore, the Madison Bingaman Memorial Tournament and the Penn Invitational.

 

Carter has recorded eight double-doubles this season, tied for the most on the team, including six in a row from Sept. 9-16. For the season, she ranks second on the team with 3.18 digs per set, and she is third with 2.10 kills per set and 16 service aces.
