Dalton Tolliver Named America East Volleyball Rookie of the Week
Cambridge, Mass.- UMBC freshman Dalton Tolliver (Ortonville, Mich./Notre Dame Prep) was named America East Conference Volleyball Rookie of the Week for matches ending Oct. 2, 2011.
Tolliver amassed a team-high 28 kills in two matches and hit .323 in a 3-0 win over Binghamton and a 3-2 setback vs. Albany. She totaled one solo blocks and recorded four assisted blocks. Her 16 kills vs. Binghamton tied a season high.
Tolliver got UMBC off to a great start with eight kills and zero errors in 10 total attacks in set one of the victory over Binghamton and is now averaging 2.1 kills per set. In conference matches, she is ranked seventh in hitting percentage (.333), ninth in total points (3.23) and tenth in kills (2.77).
The Michigan native is the second Retriever freshman to earn the first-year player award in 2011. Classmate Hannah Schmidt (Catonsville, Md./Mount de Sales) was the league’s recipient on Aug. 29 and Sept. 6.
