Game Story November 23, 2002 LIU UPSETS UMBC TO ADVANCE TO THE NEC VOLLEYBALL FINALS Baltimore, MD ---#3 Long Island University (21-17) upset #2 UMBC (17-12) 32-30, 30-27, 30-19, in a semifinal match of the Northeast Conference Championship at the UMBC RAC Arena. LIU will play Robert Morris in the championship game on Sunday at 1:00. LIU senior middle back April Danzi recorded 9 kills and hit a blazing .438 for the first game. Junior outside hitter Christina Pintilie and Danzi combined for a total 16 kills in game two The tandem closed the match with a total of 13 kills and 7 digs. On the defensive end sophomore setter Ivana Vasiljevic led the Blackbirds with 23 digs and 40 assists, followed by Adela Igniska's 11 digs total. The senior and junior duo of Danzi (23 kills, .341 hitting percentage) and Pintilie (21 kills, .341 hitting percentage) ended the match with an astounding 44 comined kills Freshman Christine Skala led UMBC with 13 kills. The Blackbirds hit .237 from the floor and held UMBC to .228 hitting mark. ---NEC---
