VOLLEYBALL SWEEPS VIRGINIA COMMONWEALTH AT THE RAC

Baltimore, MD - - -UMBC swept Virginia Commonwealth, 31-29, 30-17, 30-26, in a non-conference volleyball match on Tuesday evening at the UMBC RAC Arena. The Retrievers improved to 17-11 and the Rams dropped to 16-12.
UMBC received 4 kills each from sophomore outside hitter Tauna Woolery and junior middle hitter Jennifer Davis in the opening game. Woolery and Davis added 4 more kills in the second game as did freshman outside hitter Christine Skala. The Retrievers closed out the match in game three behind the solid play of Davis (5 kills) and sophomore middle hitter Jocelyn Teoh (4 kills).
Davis recorded a team-high 13 kills and hit a blazing .571 for the match. Woolery chipped in with 10 kills and added a match-high 18 digs. Senior setter Heather Hollidge recorded a match-high 30 assists on senior night.
Sophomore outside hitter Juanita Mitchell led VCU with a match-high 17 kills and hit .314 for the match. Junior outside hitter Laura Heffner added 7 kills and 11 digs and senior setter Lauren Nussman added 5 assisted blocks and a team-high 26 assists.
UMBC hit .256 for the match and held the Rams to a .084 hitting mark.
