Kennedy, Spaay Named to America East Volleyball All-Academic Team

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—Juniors Iman Kennedy (Charlotte, N.C./Independence) and Allie Spaay (Kenosha, Wis./Kenosha Tremper) have been named to the 2010 America East Volleyball All-Academic Team, as announced by the conference Tuesday.

 

Kennedy the Retrievers and ranked third in the conference in total blocks with 1.05 blocks per set, while ranking second on the team with a .191 hitting percentage and third in kills with 1.89 kills per set. The junior’s 97 assisted blocks this season was the third-most in school history, while her 108 total blocks rank sixth in UMBC history. Kennedy has a 3.87 cumulative GPA and is majoring in psychology with minors in Spanish and biology.

 

Spaay the Retrievers and was second in the America East in assists with 9.45 assists per set. The junior also ranked second on the team in digs with 3.22 digs per set, while adding 28 total blocks and 15 service aces. Spaay has a cumulative GPA of 3.68 and is majoring in psychology with a minor in biological sciences.

 

Both student-athletes, who were named to the America East Commissioner’s Honor Roll in 2008 and 2009, helped lead the Retrievers to the America East Championship game for the second time in eight seasons in the conference.
