UMBC Volleyball Opens America East Play with Albany, Binghamton at the RAC

BALTIMORE—The UMBC volleyball team travels to Towson, Md. Tuesday night to take on local rival Towson at 7 p.m. Live stats and video are available for the match.
The Retrievers dropped a four-set match at Towson Tuesday night, 3-1. Senior Sabrina Hoeks just missed her seventh straight double-double with nine kills and 11 digs.
For the season, Hoeks leads the team in kills (2.77 kps) and aces (0.56 aps), while junior Iman Kennedy leads the team in blocks (1.08 bps) and freshman Hallie Carter leads the team in digs (3.79 dps). Kennedy now has 154 career assisted blocks, ninth-most in Retriever history. Hoeks needs just three aces to break into the top 10 in career aces.
DIG PINK – Oct. 8 vs. Stony Brook: The Retrievers’ match vs. Stony Brook on Friday, Sept. 8 at 7 p.m. will be UMBC’s Dig Pink game to help raise money for breast cancer research. SCOUTING THE GREAT DANES: Albany (9-5) comes to Baltimore having split a home-and-home series with Yale last weekend. The Great Danes dropped Friday night’s match, 3-1, before winning at home in a five-set thriller, 3-2. Casey Wright leads Albany with 3.65 kills per set and 1.27 blocks per set, while Laurie Gonzalez leads the team with 5.08 digs per set. Kaley Jacobson directs the offense with 9.50 assists per set.
All-Time Series: Albany leads the series, 15-2, including 3-0 in the 2009 America East semifinals and has won the past six matchups. The Retrievers last win came in 2007 in Baltimore.
SCOUTING THE BEARCATS: Binghamton fell to Syracuse Wednesday night, 3-1, to fall to 5-10 on the season. Seniors Michelle McDonough and Anna Lejina lead the Bearcats with 3.67 kills per set and 3.56 kills per set.
All-Time Series: Binghamton leads the series, 13-4, and has won six out of the last seven meetings. Last year the two teams split the series, with UMBC winning up in Vestal, N.Y. and the Bearcats winning in Baltimore.
